Mayra Noemi Guevara was killed by a suspected drunk driver at the intersection of FM 466 and FM 477 in Guadalupe County. Guevara reportedly stopped for a stop sign and then proceeded into the intersection when Ryan Aviles reportedly ran a stop sign and crashed into her. Mayra Noemi Guevara was from Seguin, Texas. She had two passengers with her who were also injured and hospitalized. Mayra Noemi Guevara was taken to Guadalupe Regional Medical Center but did not survive her injuries. The Texas Department of Public Safety investigated the crash and arrested Aviles for intoxication manslaughter, intoxication assault, no insurance and failure to appear after previously being arrested for possession of marijuana. Aviles is being held on a shockingly low bond of only $71,000.00. This type of lenience is not a deterrent to drunk driving. The legislature needs to consider new laws to set minimum bond for intoxication manslaughter at one million dollars. Mayra Noemi Guevara was only 21 years-old and had her whole life ahead of her.
