On December 23, 2023, around 2:00 a.m., a fatal crash happened near FM 819 and FM 2108 in Angelina County. The single vehicle crash left Bradley Scott Cooper of Lufkin dead. His driver, Winston Roy Conway, was arrested for intoxication manslaughter. Conway reportedly admitted drinking alcohol at a Christmas party and then going to a bar for more alcohol.
