Mary Merlino killed in crash near Elkhart.

A crash on Highway 287 near Elkhart has taken the life of Mineola resident Mary Merlino, age 22. The Anderson County crash involved three vehicles. Brian Scruggs reportedly struck a Honda Accord from behind which then crossed into oncoming traffic. Mary Merlino was a passenger in a Ford Taurus who died in the head-on collision. All survivors were transported to local hospitals. No charges have been filed to date. The Texas Department of Public Safety is continuing its investigation.
