In the early hours of August 12, 2023, Donald Collins stopped on I-30 to help a motorist who was the victim of a hit and run driver. As he tried to help the hit and run victim, an alleged drunk driver crashed into him and killed him. The driver of a Chevrolet Tahoe which struck and killed Donald Collins, Irma Nelly Martinez-Leal, was arrested for intoxication manslaughter and intoxication assault.
