Lenient judges need to get tough on intoxication manslaughter.

Dallas County Judge Tina Clinton handed down a shockingly lenient sentence in an intoxication manslaughter case in which Danny Ortiz was killed. Ortiz' family had to wait for years hoping for justice only to be insulted by Judge Clinton's lenient sentence. The defendant was a man named Bryan Lee Howard who was drunk and ran a stop sign at the time of Ortiz' death. Howard repeatedly had prior arrests for DWI. Sentences like these by Judge Clinton fail to provide a deterrent to drunk driving. Out state legislature needs to address the issue of mandatory prison time for intoxication manslaughter so Judges like Tina Clinton do not have the option to hand down lenient sentences like this one.
