Suspected drunk driver kills Camille Marti and Loren Stacks in Jefferson County.
The Texas Department of Public Safety arrested Salvador Gamez on two counts of intoxication manslaughter.
On June 14, 2024, about 1:45 a.m., The Texas Department of Public Safety investigated a head-on crash on Highway 69in Jefferson County. A truck was reportedly going the wrong way when it hit a Toyota head-on killing the driver and passenger inside the Toyota. Camille Marti was identified as the driver and Loren Stacks was identified as her passenger. Salvador Gamez from Brownsville was arrested on two counts of intoxication manslaughter. A high percentage of wrong-way collisions involve alcohol, especially when they happen around the time bars close. Gamez' blood alcohol level was not immediately available. However, it is illegal in Texas to serve alcohol to a customer to the point of intoxication.
